Important Announcement for users of the Planning Tool

During the past 6 months we have experienced significant increase in the number of schools using the planning tool. During this period, we have received feedback on the planning tool and its appropriateness for supporting the work of schools, particularly in respect of its suitability for Scotland’s new Curriculum for Excellence.

In the light of this feedback, we have made some important changes to the planning tool in order to better reflect the planning procedures of teachers across Scotland.  Users should be assured, however, that these changes will not affect work carried out on existing plans, despite the introduction of new fields. Users may, however, wish to revisit previously planned work in order to record new information and add value where appropriate.

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS

NAME OF TEACHER/AUTHOR

The planner now contains a field to record the name of the teacher or author of the plan. This will enable users to search for plans created by particular teachers. The printed plan will also display the teacher’s name, which is helpful where there are multiple users within a school.

TITLE AND DESCRIPTION OF PLAN

The Title and Description fields are now mandatory.  It is important to provide this information in order that users can search across plans – not just their own plans but all plans within the database.  The aim of this isn’t just making retrieval of plans easier – it is to share curricular planning with colleagues across Scotland.  When writing a Title or Descriptor, please try to incorporate key words that would help you and other users to search for a plan.

LEVEL

There is no level pre-set.  Users must now select the appropriate Curriculum for Excellence level for the plan.  This will subsequently ensure that users are provided with the correct Experiences and Outcomes as well as learning intentions and activities for that particular CfE Level.
